UC Volleyball Falls to Alfred at Oswego Invite

UTICA, NY (10/08/2011)- The Utica College volleyball team lost two games Saturday to Oswego State and Alfred University at the Oswego Invite.  Freshman setter Kellee Furno (Baltimore, MD/Maryvalle) had a team-high 47 assists in the two defeats. 

In the morning, UC lost by scores of 25-11, 25-12, and 25-13, while it managed to win the second game 25-19.  Oswego is now 6-15 overall and 0-4 in the SUNYAC. 

The second match was very close as Alfred edged out UC 26-24.  The Pioneers took the second game by a scored of 25-21.  Alfred then won the next two (27-25, 25-21) to close out the match.  The Saxons are now 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the Empire 8 while the Pioneers have dropped 15 straight and fall to 1- 24 on the year. 

Freshman Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills), from New York Mills, had a team-high 18 kills as well as 17 digs for UC.  Nicotera currently leads the team in kills (86), digs (149), and aces (19). 

Junior Mimi O'Hara (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) recorded a team-high 29 digs and three aces in the two matches for the Pioneers.  She now has 82 digs on the season. 

The Pioneers return to action Friday as they travel to Oneonta, NY for the Hartwick College Invitational.
