Geneva, NY (11/12/2011) - The seventh-ranked Utica College men's hockey team skated to a 4-2 win over host Hobart College Saturday in ECAC Men's West Conference play. Sophomore
Trever Hertz (Jaffray, British Columbia/Quesnel Millionaires (BCHL)) netted two goals for UC, while senior forward
Soichiro Omi (Tokyo, Japan/Bradford (GMHL)) scored the game-winner early in the third period to pace the Pioneers to their third straight victory.
The Pioneers improved to 5-1-0 and 1-1-0 in the ECAC West.
Cody Adams (Duncan, British Columbia/Plattsburgh (SUNYAC)) led Utica with three assists.
The Statesmen (2-3, 1-2 ECAC West) scored first 8:38 into the first period. First-year Tommaso Traversa scored his first collegiate goal off assists from first-years Peter Quigley and Ian Coleman. Hertz tied things up for Utica at 14:41 with his first goal of the night.
George Lotito (Staten Island, NY/NH Jr. Monarchs (EJHL)) and Adams earned the assists.
With 1:36 left in the first, junior Brad Richard capitalized on a power play to give the Statesmen a 2-1 lead. Senior Greg Ciciola and sophomore Keith Clarke (Westmeath, Ontario) set up the play.
At 8:03 in the second period,
Tim Coffman (Elverson, PA/Laconia (AJHL)) scored his third goal of the season to tie things up at two.
Evan Chlanda (Islip, NY/Springfield (EJHL)) and Roberts Etts were credited with the assists. Just 2:07 into the final period Omi put the Pioneers on top, 3-2.
Adam Graff (Bear, DE/Syracuse Stars (EJHL)) and Adams recorded the assists.
Hobart pulled goalie Nick Broadwater in the final seconds of the third period for the extra skater, but the Statesmen could not find the game-tying goal. Hertz scored his second goal of the night on an empty net off an assist from Adams.
Broadwater finished with 19 saves in 59:30 in goal for Hobart, while
Nick Therrien (Rochester, NH/NY Apple Core (EJHL)) stopped 31 shots in 59:55 between the pipes for Utica.
