UTICA, NY (11/18/11)- Freshmen Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) of the Utica College field hockey team were named to the 2011 Longstreth / NFHCA Division III North Atlantic All-Region Second team Wednesday.  The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) breaks division III field hockey into six different regions and the selection committee picked 32 players to represent the North Atlantic Region. 

The dynamic first-year combo accounted for more than 60% of the team's goals (28-of-46), 61-of-119 total points, 5-of-11 game-winning goals, and 100-of-231 shots on goal.  

Steele- Norton burst on the scene and led the conference with 15 goals and 31 total points.  15 goals in a single-season ranks third on the College's all-time list and her 31 total points ranks fourth on the single-season scoring list.  11 of her 15 goals came in the final 11 games of the season.  That streak included a five game scoring streak.  She totaled a team-best four game-winning goals and averaged 1.63 points per contest.

Mackey ranked second on the team and tied for second in the conference with 30 points on 13 goals and four assists in her freshman campaign.  Scoring came in bunches for Mackey this season as she posted four outings with four points or more.  She became the seventh player in program-history to score six or more points in a single game after netting three goals in the Pioneers' 5-1 win over Ithaca College. She started all 19 games for Utica and led the conference with 88 shots.

The Pioneers (11-8 overall; 6-1 Empire 8) had one of their best seasons in program history as they won the Empire 8 regular season championship outright and hosted the conference championships for the first time.  UC was knocked off in the conference semifinals to eventual champion W&J.
