Utica, NY (11-6-11 – The Utica College women's hockey team lost 8-1 Sunday afternoon to nationally-ranked No. 2 Rochester Institute of Technology in the second game of the weekend set. Sophomore
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) netted her first goal of the season for UC in the second period.
The Pioneers were penalized 0:23 into the contest and just 0:23 seconds later the Tigers converted on the power-play. RIT's Kolbee McCrea recorded her third goal of the season off assists from Tenecia Hiller and leading scorer Kourtney Kunichika, at 0:46. The eventual game-winner was scored at 6:57 by Tiger Kourtney Kunichika , even-strentghed as Rochester to a 2-0 headed into the second period.
The home-team came out of the locker room and scored four consecutive, even-strength goals over the course of the first 18:00 minutes of play in the second period. Utica finally got on the board with 0:18 remaining in the period when UC took advantage of a power-play opportunity. Maines registered her second career goal off dishes from senior
MacKenzie Roy (Concord, NH/Cushing Academy) and sophomore
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects). Roy became the college's all-time points leader by a defenseman.
The Tigers scored another two third period goals as the national power proved to be too much for the Pioneers. Rochester out shout Utica 59-11 on the afternoon while converting on 2-of-5 power-play chances.

Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) just 8:31 into the contest and finished the game with a game-high 44 saves, in 51:50.
The Pioneers return to the ice next Friday, Nov. 11 as they square off against Oswego St. in a home-and-home series. Friday's game will be held at The Utica Memorial Auditorium with an expected start time of 4 p.m. Saturday's contest will be held at Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego,NY and is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
