The Pioneers, coming off a thrilling 71-69 victory over Alfred last night, dropped to 11-10 overall and 5-8 in conference play. The Cardinals snapped a four game slide and moved their record to 13-11 overall and 9-6 in the E8.
Jason Norsen came off the bench for the home team and scored a team-high 21 points. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Brent Harder tallied 18 points and Jordan Gettings added 12 to lead the Cardinals to a nine point victory.
After falling in a quick 5-0 hole the Pioneers responded with an 11-0 run to take a six point advantage at the 15:46 marker. Fisher turned it on and was able to knot the score at 21-21 with 6:35 to go in the first half of play. The Cardinals used a 14-8 run to close out the half to earn a six point lead as the buzzer sounded.
Fisher opened the second half on a 13-8 run in a span of 4:39 to take its first double digit lead, 49-37, of the contest. The Pioneers used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to take their final lead of the game, 52-51, with 8:22 to go in regulation. On the ensuing possession the Cardinals knocked down a 3-pointer to take the lead for good. Fisher would add to its lead in the final five minutes to earn the nine point victory.
Alex Meyer (Salt Point, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) came off the bench for Utica and scored eight points, while senior
Marlon Davidson (Jamaica, NY/August Martin) scored three points .
Utica returns to the hardwood on Tuesday night when it travels to Elmira College for a conference contest at 8 p.m. Fisher, which hosted senior night against Utica, will travel to East Avenue Rival Nazareth College on Tuesday night for its final regular season contest at 8 p.m.
