UC SOFTBALL WINS SEASON OPENER 6-4 AT REBEL SPRING GAMES

Kissimmee, Fl. (3/13/2011) – The Utica College softball team split a pair of season-opening games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fl. Sunday afternoon. In the first game of the day the Pioneers' downed Anderson College 6-4 behind third inning RBI singles from freshman classmates Kristie Jones (Brewerton, NY/Paul V Moore) and New Hartford's Katie Cadieux (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford). Freshman hurler Heather Kingsbury (Williamson, NY/Williamson) pitched all seven innings while striking out three in the UC victory.

The Pioneers (1-1) ran into the hot pitching of Rowan's Jamie Minix in game two and were no-hit in a 4-1 loss. UC's lone run of game two came after an error and a Jess Anson (Utica, NY/Proctor) sacrifice ground out, which scored catcher Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany), in the top of the seventh inning.

In the Pioneers game one victory senior outfielder Kim Martin (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) went 1-for-3 with a two RBI double, while classmate Claire Gerlach (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) also went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Sophomore All-Empire 8 first baseman Bridgette Plummer (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) hit a first inning triple and Ingalls went 1-for-2 with one RBI in the victory.

UC will wake up bright and early Monday morning to take on Farmingdale State at 9 a.m. before concluding the days scheduled contests against McDaniel College at 1 p.m.
