Kissimmee, Fl. (3/18/2011) – The Utica College softball team wrapped up its trip to the Rebel Spring
Games in Kissimmee, Florida Friday morning with two tough losses against Springfield and Centenary. The Pioneers had won five out of their last six games headed into the final day and finished up the trip with a 6-4 overall record.

UC dropped game one against Springfield, 1-0, after a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was a true defensive battle the entire contest, with each team recording five hits a piece, until the Pride mustered two hits, a sacrifice, and finally scored on the game-winning wild pitch by Utica junior transfer Heather Kingsbury (Williamson, NY/Williamson). Kingsbury finished the day with five strikeouts and has nothing to be ashamed of after posting a 4-1 overall record in Florida.

Sophomore Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) led the way for Utica in game one going 2-for-3 with one double and one triple.

Centenary held the Pioneers to one run on three hits in game two, and scored six runs in the final three innings, to earn the convincing 8-1 victory. UC starting pitcher Haley Butler (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) was able to hold Centenary to just two runs over the course of the first four innings, before the Cyclones exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the victory.

Senior centerfielder Kim Martin (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) went 1-for-3 with one run scored, while second baseman Rebecca Ornstein (Howell, NJ/Howell High School) went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Jess Anson (Utica, NY/Proctor) added the Pioneers third and final hit of the game.

The Pioneers return home and get right back to action on Wednesday when they host Cazenovia in their home-opener at Greenman Field. The double header is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
