Utica, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team (2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) prepares to travel to Oswego, NY Wednesday to face SUNY Oswego. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be held at South Athletic Field.
The Lakers are currently 1-0 this season after beating Kean University 16-11 in Kissimmee, Florida. Last season, Oswego compiled an overall record of 7-10, including a 1-7 mark in SUNYAC play. The teams' met once back in 2005 with the Lakers' coming away with a 16-5 victory.
UC is led by the college's all-time leading scorer senior
Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran). Kohanski is coming off a stellar, seven-point, performance Saturday as she led UC to a 9-8 victory over host Clarkson University. She currently leads Utica in four major categories: goals (11), assists (5), points (16), and caused turnovers (8).
Accompanying Kohanski is senior
Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), who is second on the team in goals (6), assists (5), and points (11). Banker also has five groundballs and two caused turnovers for UC.
Junior goalie
Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) holds a 2-1 record, while recording 32 saves and allowing 23 goals, good enough for a goal against average of 7.67.
The Pioneers return to action Friday, Apr. 1 as they open up Empire 8 Conference play against nationally-ranked No. 9 Stevens Institute of Technology. The game will be held at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium and is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The Ducks are currently 5-1 overall and have won four straight.
