KOHANSKI NETS SIX BUT PIONEERS LOSE AT NAZ

Rochester, N.Y. (4/10/11) – Senior Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) of the Utica College women's lacrosse team netted a game-high six goals, but it was not enough, as the Pioneers lost to host Nazareth College 15-9 in Empire 8 Conference play Sunday afternoon. Junior Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) added one goal and one assist as the Pioneers' dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Nazareth, led by Kristine Olijynk's five goals and one assist, improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Golden Flyers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half of play and never looked back as they won their second straight conference game.

Utica made a late surge, netting six goals in the final 16:55 of play, but it proved to be too late, as the Pioneers lost their third straight contest. Junior goalie Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) stopped nine shots in the loss. Freshman Kaela King caused a team-high four turnovers for UC, while Lilly Fleskes added one goal.

Senior Kelley Fullerton (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) assisted on classmate Julianne Schultheiss (Commack, NY/Commack)' ninth goal of the season and Fullerton also added a team-high four ground balls.

The Pioneers look to get back on track Wednesday when they travel to SUNY Geneseo for a non conference contest at 4 p.m. The contest will be played at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.
