Utica, NY – The Utica College women's lacrosse team lost 12-1 to nationally-ranked No. 20 SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference match Wednesday. The game was called with 11:41 remaining due to field conditions from inclement weather.

The Pioneers fall to 4-6 overall and hold a 1-4 mark in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Blue Knights push to 8-1 on the season including a 2-1 record in the SUNYAC.

The scoring opened up at 29:18 in the first half when Blue Knight Caroline Buonocore netted one of her three goals off an assist from Lea Paris. UC would answer just under four minutes later at 25:41 off a free position shot from Pioneer all-time leading scorer, senior Tammy Kohanski (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran). Geneseo netted four more first half goals to take a 5-1 lead at halftime.

In the second half the Blue Knights scored seven goals before the game was stopped. Geneseo had out shot UC 17-2 at that point in the second half and 33-9 overall, while grabbing 24 groundballs to Utica's 11.

Junior goalie Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) registered 10 saves while allowing 12 goals in 48:19 minutes.

The Pioneers return to action this weekend as they host back-to-back conference games on Saturday and Sunday. UC will welcome Elmira College on Saturday and Alfred University on Sunday. Both games have a scheduled start time of 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
