Utica, NY (4/15/11) – The Utica College softball team is set to host back-to-back double headers this weekend against Empire 8 Conference rivals Nazareth and St. John Fisher College. The games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. both days and will be held at Greenman Field in Utica, NY.
On Saturday, Nazareth College comes to town holding a 3-17 overall record and are winless in conference play at 0-4. Last year, the teams' split in Rochester, NY with the Pioneers winning game one, 5-1, and the Golden Flyers winning game two, 4-0. In recent years, Nazareth holds a 5-3 ledger against Utica.
On Sunday, UC welcomes St. John Fisher College who currently holds an overall record of 20-6 including a 4-2 mark in the conference. Last year, the Cardinals swept Utica by scores of 10-5 and 6-3 in Rochester, NY. Fisher has swept UC the last four years.
The Pioneers are led by sophomore catcher
Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) who currently leads the team in batting average (.453), hits (39), doubles (eight), and is second in RBI's (24) and runs scored (27). Sophomore first baseman
Bridgette Plummer (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) leads the team in runs scored (29) and is second in average (.386), hits (32), doubles (five) and homeruns (three).
Following the weekend set, the Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they host SUNY Oswego. The twilight double header is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be held at Greenman Field.
