ZALOOM TAKES 4TH SINGLES DOWN TO THE WIRE - PIONEERS FALL TO ALFRED

UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team finished the season with a 9-0 loss to Empire 8 Conference rival Alfred University Saturday at the Utica College tennis courts.

The Pioneers lost all six singles events by a combined score of 80-35. Mike Zaloom (Utica, NY/TR Proctor High School ), Thein Doan, Albert Phalen (Bethlehem, CT/Nonnewaug), Jeff Blazek, Sam Cotrupe (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro High School ) and Shaun Kaleta (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) competed in the singles competition.

UC's closest match of the day came in the singles competition as Kaleta lost (7-6, 6-4) to Alfred's Connor Houghton. Zaloom also recorded a commendable performance as he won the first set 6-3 before losing the final to two sets to Alfred's Nathan Kucko 6-3, 10-6.

In the doubles competition, Alfred's Nathan Garletts and Stefan Nonnenmann defeated Utica's team of Zaloom and Albert Phalen (Bethlehem, CT/Nonnewaug), 8-4. Alfred's duo of Kucko and Eric Teller also won their doubles match as they defeated the team of Daniel Fadden (Lakeland, NY/Bishop Ludden) and Blazek, 8-4.

Alfred finishes their season with a 6-7 overall record, including a 3-5 conference record. The Pioneers finish the season with an overall record of 0-7.
