Utica, N.Y. (4/8/2011) – The Utica College softball team (10-8, 1-1), which is coming off a six-game home stand, will hit the road this weekend for Empire 8 Conference play. Saturday the Pioneers will travel to RIT (9-6, 1-1) and Sunday they will travel to Alfred (9-2, 0-0). Both contests will be double-headers that will begin at 1 p.m.
UC is 3-10 against the Tigers since 2006, with their last win coming back in 2009. The Pioneers hope to snap a six-game losing streak against Alfred and they are 4-6 against the Saxons since 2006.
Utica is led by sophomore catcher
Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany), who is batting a team-high .476 with two homeruns and a team best 20 RBIs to go along with 20 runs scored. Senior outfielder
Kim Martin (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) leads the team with six steals and she is batting .344 with 19 runs scored. Martin has only struck out once in 64 at-bats.
Junior pitcher
Heather Kingsbury (Williamson, NY/Williamson) has started nine games for UC and pitched seven complete games. She has a 7-2 record to go along with a 2.54 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched. Sophomore pitcher
Stephanie Romanow (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) has appeared in nine games, while starting three. She has a 3.10 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched and one save.
The Pioneers have outscored their opponents 102 to 91 through 18 games and they have combined for a .302 batting average.
