UTICA LOSSES TWO TO NAZARETH AND RIT

Utica, N.Y. – The Utica College men's tennis team was defeated by Nazareth College on Friday, April 8th, 9-0. They also played Rochester Institute of Technology on April 9th, but loss that match as well, 9-0.

Junior, Thien Doan (An Giang-Long Xuyen, Viet Nam/) was the only bright spot for the Pioneers. In singles competition, Doan lost both matches, 6-3, to Nazareth's Bret Beaver. Doan also teamed up Shaun Kaleta (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) (Oriskany/ Oriskany, NY) in the doubles competition, but were defeated by the team of Beaver and Ryan McCormick, 8-4.

On Saturday, the Pioneers were led by Doan for the second time. Doan lost to the Tigers' Will Abisalih 6-2 in both singles matches. Sophomore Albert Phalen (Bethlehem, CT/Nonnewaug) lost to Neville Bilimoria, 6-1, in both singles matches. In doubles competition, the team of Doan and Kaleta lost to Tennyson Saucedo and Will Abisalih, 8-2.

The Pioneers overall record is now 0-3. They look to rebound as they host Elmira College on April 14th. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
