UC Golf Shaves 11 Strokes Off First Round Score - Places 15th at SLU

Canton, N.Y. (9/11/2011) - The Utica College golf team shaved 11 strokes off its team score from Saturday, totaling a 357, to take 15th place at the St. Lawrence University Invitational at SLU's University Golf Course Sunday morning. Junior John Gaspa (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) entered the club house with a team-low round of 83 – which was ten strokes lower than his first round score.

Sophomore Mike Reilly (Colton, NY /Colton Pierrepont) was the top overall finisher for UC after posting an 85 on day two, to go along with an 81 on day one, as he tied for 57th overall at the tournament. Gaspa tied for 74th overall with a two-day score of 176 at the par 72, 6,672 yard course.

Freshman Christian Leogrande (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) cut four strokes off of his first round score and wrapped up the weekend tournament with a 93 on day two. His total score of 190 was good enough for a 77th place finish. Mike Agosto (Rome, NY/RFA) shot back-to-back rounds of 96 and placed 78th overall, while Patrick Dundon (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) placed 79th with a two-day total of 193.

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they host the first leg of the 2011 Empire 8 Conference Golf Tournament at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, N.Y. The Yahnundasis is widely known as the premier private golf club in the Mohawk Valley. The Pioneers will host the first two days of the tournament this Fall, and the second leg of the tournament will be hosted by Scranton University in Hershey, Pa. on April 21-22.
