Canton, N.Y. (9/10/2011) - The Utica College golf team posted a combined score of 367 and is currently in 15th place after day one of the 2011 St. Lawrence University Invitational at SLU's University Golf Course. Sophomore
Mike Reilly (Colton, NY /Colton Pierrepont) shot a 42 on the front nine and a 39 on the back to tie for 45th place with an overall score of 81 on the par 72, 6,672 yard course in Canton, N.Y.
Junior
John Gaspa (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), from nearby Whitesboro, N.Y., came in second for the Pioneers and currently sits in 76th place overall after carding a round of 93 (44-49). Freshman
Mike Agosto (Rome, NY/RFA) improved on the back nine, and posted a 46, after registering a 50 on the front for a total round of 96. Freshman
Christian Leogrande (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) carded a 97 in his second collegiate appearance, while junior
Patrick Dundon (Utica, NY/Whitesboro), who is also a member of the College's men's lacrosse team, posted a 98 on the afternoon.
Empire 8 Conference foe St. John Fisher currently sits in first place overall with a score of 293, while E8 member Elmira College sits ten strokes off the pace, with a team score of 303. Fisher's Thad Wier III posted a one-under round of 71 and he currently holds the top spot at the tournament.
The Pioneers return to the St. Lawrence University Golf Course on Sunday morning to wrap up the weekend's events. Tee-time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
