Utica, NY (9-14-11) - The Utica College field hockey team lost 4-0 to local rival Hamilton College Wednesday at Campus Athletic Field in Clinton, NY. Both squads are now .500 early in the season season as the Pioneers dropped to 2-2 overall and the Continentals, who were ranked No. 17 in the NFHCA Preseason Poll, improved to 1-1.
UC has now been shut out by the Continentals the last three years by a margin of 11-0. Hamilton has been a national force in recent years as they have been to the NCAA Championship in each of the the past two seasons.
The home team came out dominating the first 20 minutes of action while setting up two early corner attempts. Following the second corner attempt, Hamilton fired three consecutive shots and converted on the third as Catie Torcivia tallied her first goal of the season at 3:52.
After 24 minutes of scoreless play, the Continentals took a 2-0 advantage at 27:55 as Nikki Haskins found the back of the net off a Erin McNally assist.
Hamilton would score two more second half goals in final 12 minutes of play to seal their third straight victory against Utica.

Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) registered seven saves while allowing four goals for Utica, and the home team out shot UC 27-3 in the contest.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they open up Empire 8 Conference action against Stevens Institute of Technology. The game will be held at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, NJ and is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
Stevens, three time defending conference champions, is currently 0-3 on this season. The Ducks started last season 0-5 and ended up taking on Eastern University (20-2) in the NCAA Regional Semifinal game, only to lose 1-0.
