UC Field Hockey Gears Up For National Power Hamilton

Utica, NY (9-14-11) – The Utica College field hockey team travels across town Wednesday to challenge local non-conference rival Hamilton College.  The contest will be held at Campus Road Athletic Field in Clinton, NY and is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

The Pioneers are currently 2-1 overall this season while the Continentals lost their season opener, 2-1, to conference opponent Trinity.  Utica holds a 7-3 advantage over Hamilton in heads up play dating back to 2002, however has been shut out the past two seasons.  Previously, UC had won five straight while outscoring HC 19-4 from 2004-2008.

The Pioneers are led by Mariano Marino who currently leads the team in points (five), goals (two), shots (21), and shots on goal (14).  The senior forward was a recipient of the 2010 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad as well as to the E8 All-Conference Team.

Midfielder Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) has recorded two goals thus far in her freshman campaign.

Net minder, senior Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego), has registered 17 saves while allowing only four goals in 210:00 minutes played.  She currently holds a .810 save percentage to go along with a 1.33 goals against average.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they open up Empire 8 Conference action against Stevens Institute of Technology.  The game will be held at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, NJ and is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

Stevens, three time defending champions, is currently 0-3 on this season.  The Ducks started last season 0-5 and ended up battling Eastern University (20-2)in the NCAA Regional Semifinal game only to lose 1-0.
