Utica, NY (9-18-11) - The Utica College men's golf team shot a 340 on day two of the Empire 8 Fall Golf Championships, shaving 17 strokes off their day one total. Local native, freshman
Christian Leogrande (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame), led UC with an career-low 84 on day two.
Leogrande knocked 13 strokes off his day one scorecard as the Pioneer new addition competed in his second collegiate tournament.
Sophomore
Mike Reilly (Colton, NY /Colton Pierrepont) tallied a two-day total of 167 to head UC. Reilly, Utica's No. 1, turned in a 85 on day one and an 82 on day two as he currently ranks 33rd overall.
Junior
Ethan Kreisel (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) stepped up as Utica's second place finisher with a two-day total of 170. Kreisel placed 35th overall as he shot 82 on day one and followed with an 88 on day two.
The Pioneers are currently in eighth place after the first leg of the four round tournament with a total of 697. The final two rounds of the tournament will be hosted by Scranton University.
St. John Fisher sits in first place with a total of 591as the defending champs look for back-to-back conference titles. Cardinal Tyler McArdell is the current medalist with an impressive total of 140, as he shot 69 and 71.
Elmira currently holds second place with a 605, while Moravian is in third with a score of 611. Scranton totaled a 614 to move into fourth place while Susquehanna holds fifth totaling 626. Stevens is in sixth place with 635 followed by Nazareth in seventh with a 675.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Oct. 1 as they travel to Rochester, NY for the ECAC Upstate Championships. The two-day tournament will be held at Blue Heron Hills Golf Club. Tee times are to be announced.
