Cupka posted a team-high four shots on goal for UC
Box Score St. John Fisher 1, Utica 0 - Box Score

Utica, N.Y. (9/24/2011) - The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team netted the game's lone goal, late in the first half, to earn a 1-0 Empire 8 Conference victory over Utica College Saturday at Growney Stadium.  Utica's record moved to 4-3 overall and they have now lost two straight one goal conference contests (2-1 loss to Nazareth last Saturday).

After a series of rebounds in front of the net, Fisher's Tim Bach finally netted the game's only goal at the 36 minute mark to help the Cardinals improve their record to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.  The Pioneers basically outplayed the Cardinals in all other aspects of the game.  UC outshot the home team 18-14 and also earned an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks, but unfortunately the Pioneers could not seem to find the back of the net.

Jonathan Wood (Derry, NH/Pinkerton) and Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) each totaled three shots on goal for Utica, while Jeff Cupka added a game-high four shots on goal.  The Pioneers put 13 of their 18 shots on goal, compared to Cardinals six of 14 effort.

Utica goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) stopped five shots in net, while his counterpart, Kyle Metcalfe made 12 saves for Fisher to help secure the shutout victory.

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they travel to Union College for a non-conference contest at 7 p.m.
