UTICA, NY (9/27/2011)- The Utica College field hockey team looks to continue its winning ways Wednesday as it hosts the University of Rochester in non-conference play.  The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

LAST WEEK: The Pioneers have had two big wins in the last week… Utica defeated 2010 NCAA tournament participant Geneseo 2-1 Wednesday… UC followed that up with a 2-1 overtime victory over conference foe and previously undefeated Washington & Jefferson.

WHERE WE SIT: UC is currently riding the highs of a three game win streak… The Pioneers are 5-2 overall and sit atop the Empire 8 Conference with a 2-0 league record. 

COMING HOME: This is the second of a four-game home stand for the Pioneers… UC has won its last five home games dating back to Oct. 9 last season.

SERIES: Utica is 4-4 all-time against the Yellow Jackets… Three of the meetings have gone to overtime… Last season the Pioneers left Rochester with a 2-1 win. 

YOUNG GUNS: Freshmen have accounted for 11 of the Pioneers' 15 goals this season … Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) is tied for first on the team in scoring with 10 points in seven games… Mackey is also tied for second in the conference in goals (five) … Freshman Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) has netted four goals including two game-winners this season… Steele-Norton is fresh off being named Conference Player of the Week… Classmate Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) has added two goals and an assist of her own.

STORM SEASON: Senior goalie Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) has started all seven games for UC this season and she has registered a 1.83 goals against average to go along with 48 saves… She has allowed just 13 goals and in four of the games she has allowed one goal or less, including one shut out… Storms was named Conference Goalie of the Week last week after allowing just two goals in two games. 

LEADING THE WAY: Senior Mallory Mariano (Oneida, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) ranks first in the conference in shots (31) and shots per game (4.43) …  Mariano and Mackey are also tied for fourth in the conference in points (10) and points per game (1.43)…  Mariano netted the game-winner in overtime on Saturday to take down W&J…  Sophomore Ally Sanders (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) leads UC with three assists this season.

SCOUTING ROCHESTER:  The Yellow Jackets are led by senior Anna Dobrzynski who has racked up 11 goals and 25 points through nine games so far… Classmate Allison Beardsley has 12 assists and 24 points on the season… Rochester is currently 6-3 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Mallory Mariano (Oneida, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) needs two points to move into sole possession of 7th place in the College's all-time scoring list … She also ranks 9th all-time with 15 career goals … Senior net minder Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) is third all-time in career saves (244) and saves per game (5.81)… She needs 60 saves to surpass Jenny Lounsbury for 2nd on the all-time list… Storms is also 2nd in career wins with 21.

LOOKING AHEAD: UC returns to conference play on Saturday when they host Nazareth College (2-5; 1-1 Empire 8).  Game time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
