Utica, NY (9-28-11) – The Utica College volleyball team lost 3-0 Wednesday night to SUNY Institute of Technology at the Clark Athletic Center in Utica, NY. Freshman setter
Kellee Furno (Baltimore, MD/Maryvalle) recorded a game-high 16 assists for the Pioneers and
she currently leads the squad with 157 on the season.
SUNYIT won the matches 25-18, 25-19, and 25-15. The Wildcats are now 9-9 overall, including a 3-1 mark in the NEAC, while Pioneers have dropped eight straight and fall to 1-17 on the year.
Local native
Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills), from New York Mills, had a team-high six kills as well as six digs for UC. Nicotera currently leads the team in kills (75), digs (144) and aces (18).
Lowville product, sophomore
Hayley Strife (Lowville, NY/Lowville), added three kills for Utica and two assisted blocks. Strife presently leads the team in blocks with 19 (seven solo and 12 assisted).
Mariah Walker (Frankfort, NY/Franfort-Schuyler) tallied four kills for the home team as she moved into fourth place on the team with 43.
SUNYIT senior Juleah Vedder led the way with a game-high 18 kills and 13 digs while sophomore Katie Harrington added 15 kills for the Wildcats.
The Pioneers return to the hardwood Saturday as they travel to Canton, NY to face SUNY Canton at Athletic Recreation Center. The Kangaroos are currently 9-7 overall this season.
