Utica, NY (1-31-12) – The Utica College women's basketball team heads to Rochester, NY this weekend for two Empire 8 Conference games against St. John Fisher and Nazareth.

Game Details: On Friday, UC is scheduled to tip-off against the Cardinals at 6 p.m. and on Saturday the Pioneers will journey down East Avenue to square off against the Golden Flyers for an afternoon match beginning at 2 p.m.

Pioneer Profile: Utica holds an overall record of 7-13 including a 2-7 mark in the E8 … The Pioneers have lost three straight and 13 of their last 15 games … Their two conference wins came last weekend in a sweep of Alfred and Elmira, at home.

Last Year: Last season, UC split the season series with the Cardinals while sweeping the Golden Flyers … Utica downed Fisher, 77-66, on Jan. 7 of last year in Utica, NY and Fisher returned the favor by beating the Pioneers, 82-79, in Rochester, NY on Feb. 12 … UC beat Naz in an overtime thriller, 64-58, in Utica and went on the road for the last regular season match and won 72-67.

Fiore's Forte: Junior Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) ranks second in the conference in scoring (17.1 Avg/G), third in rebounding (9.2 Avg/G), and fourth in field goal percentage (.481%) … Averaging close to a double-double on the season, she has registered five in 11 games in 2012.

The Facilitator: Senior point guard Katie McGee (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth) ranks in the top 14 in every category in the E8 statistics report and has been the whole season … Along with leading the competitive conference in assists (5.2 Avg/G) and minutes played (37.3 Avg/G), the Philadelphia, PA native is also fourth in 3-point percentage (.378%), fifth in steals (2.4 Avg/G) and 11th in scoring (12.5 Avg/G).

Around the Conference: Hartwick (16-3, 8-1 Empire 8) and Ithaca (16-4, 8-1 Empire 8) are currently tied for first in the standings with almost identical records … St. John Fisher (10-10, 6-3 Empire 8) occupies the third spot with Stevens (8-11, 5-4 Empire 8) trailing one game behind in fourth and Nazareth (11-8, 4-5 Empire 8) on the bubble in fifth … Elmira (7-13, 3-6 Empire 8) follows in sixth with Utica (7-13, 2-7 Empire 8) hanging in at seventh and Alfred (7-13, 0-9 Empire 8) rounding out the final spot. 

Back on the Hardwood: Following this weekend, the Pioneers will have three games remaining … UC hits the road Friday Feb. 10 as it travels to Alfred University for a 6 p.m. tip, followed by a trip to Elmira College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. scheduled start … Then, on Feb. 18, Utica will host Ithaca College at the Clark Athletic Center (2 p.m.) in its final regular season contest of the season.
