UC Women's Hockey Returns to Host Manhattanville Saturday

Utica, NY (1-4-11) – The Utica College women's hockey team returns to the ice Saturday, following the Holiday break, as they welcome nationally-ranked No. 12 Manhattanville College. 

Game Time: The non-conference match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and will be held at the Utica Memorial Auditorium ... The men's team will take on Curry College immediately following the women's game at 7 p.m.

The Pioneers in 2011: Utica wrapped up 2011 on a three-game winning streak, moving their overall record to 6-6 as well as 3-5 in the ECAC Women's West Conference … UC beat local foe Hamilton 5-3 at “The Aud” on Nov. 29 before sweeping Cortland in a home-and-home series, 7-2 and 5-0, convincingly … The Pioneer offense ranks 19th in the nation in scoring, averaging 2.75 goals per game.

UC vs. the Valiants: The Pioneers and the Valiants squared off for the first time in program history last season, exactly one-year ago on Jan. 7, 2011 … Manhattanville walked away with a win as it edged UC, 2-1, at the Playland Ice Casino in Purchase, NY.

Myers Off and Running: Sophomore Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) leads the squad in scoring with 18 points including a team-best six goals and 12 assists … The Las Vegas native is ranked 13th nationally in scoring and tied for seventh in assists ... Myers got hot on the teams' three-game streak with seven points on three goals and four assists.

Hamel Guarding the Pipes: Sophomore Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) has been lights out as of late with a 3-0 record, including back-to-back conference wins … In the last three contests, she has held opponents to five goals while averaging 21.6 saves per game … On the season, the net minder is now 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference action … She has 245 saves, converting to a .932 save percentage, which ranks 17th in DIII hockey.

The Scouting Report: No. 12 Manhattanville College holds a 4-5-2 overall record and is tied for fourth in the ECAC East Conference with a 3-2-1 record … Following a three-game win streak, the Panthers are 0-1-2 in their last three games … MC recently lost, 4-0, to No. 8 Plattsburgh after tying No. 3 Middlebury 2-2 and Southern Maine 0-0.

The ECAC West:  The top three teams in the conference are currently in the top eight in the country … No. 1 RIT (12-0, 8-0 ECAC West) sits undefeated in first with 16 points while No. 8 Plattsburgh (6-0-1, 8-3-1 ECAC West) holds second with 13 points and No. 3 Elmira (6-0, 9-9-1 ECAC West) in third with 12 points … Oswego State  (5-5-2, 4-2-2 ECAC West) has ten league points and is in fourth place with Buffalo State (6-5-2, 3-4-1 ECAC West) trailing in fifth with seven points and UC (6-6, 3-5 ECAC West) right behind with six points in the sixth spot … Potsdam (4-6-1, 2-6-1 ECAC West) follows in seventh with five points and Neumann in eighth place with four points … Cortland (2-5-1, 0-5-1) and Chatham (0-6, 0-6) round out the standings with the Red Dragons in ninth with one point and the Cougars in tenth still winless.

Back in Action: UC returns to action Tuesday as the team heads to Middlebury, VT for a non-conference match against Middlebury College … The game will be at the Chip Kenyon Arena with a 7 p.m. scheduled puck drop … The Panthers are currently 5-0-2 overall and tied for first in the NESCAC with a 4-0 record.
