Manhattanville 2, Utica 1 - Box Score

Utica, NY (1-7-12) – The Utica College women's hockey team lost, 2-1, to Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon at the Utica College Memorial Auditorium.  Sophomore goalie Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) led the Pioneers with 30 saves.

The first period went scoreless as both teams posted nine shots apiece.  Manhattanvlle killed three of the Pioneers' early power-play opportunities and the game was knotted up at 0-0 headed into the first intermission.

The Valiants came out firing in the second period, outshooting UC 13-4, however Hamel was able to fend off the visitors as the contest remained tied, 0-0.  Neither squad was able to convert on their power-play chances through two periods (Manhattanville 0-for-6, Utica 0-for-4).

Manhattanville took a 1-0 lead at 9:10 as Lynsey Schill put home a power-play goal.  The visitors added an insurance goal from Haleigh Hutchinson, even-strength, with one minute remaining and that proved to be the eventual game-winner.  UC got on the board with less than a minute to go as junior Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) took advantage of the man-up situation. Freshman Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) recorded an assist on Utica's lone goal.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they travel to Middlebury College for a 7 p.m. contest against the Panthers.  Middlebury, currently 6-0-2, is Utica's final non-conference test before six straight ECAC West battles.
