Utica, NY (10/1/2012) - The Utica College men's soccer team hopes to snap a five game slide on Tuesday night when the Pioneers host Clarkson University in a non conference contest on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
Pioneers Keep It Close: Despite losing five straight contests, the Pioneers have been able to keep their opponents within striking distance, losing four of the five games by just one goal … Two of those one goal losses came in overtime … Goalie
Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow), who is the College's all-time leader in career shut outs, currently boasts a 1.35 goals against average this season.
Tough Competition: The Pioneers schedule is undoubtedly one of the toughest around, as three of their last five games have been played against teams ranked in the top 25 of the national polls … The Pioneers lost by one goal in each of those games against nationally-ranked opponents … UC lost 1-0 to #24 Hobart (NSCAA Poll), #17 Plattsburgh (D3soccer.com Poll) and #18 Williams (D3soccer.com Poll).
McAllister Among E8 Leaders: Junior striker
Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) currently ranks fifth in the Empire 8 Conference with six goals this season … After scoring at least one goal in each of the first five games of the season, McAllister has been quiet as of late, being held scoreless in the last four matches.
Set Up Man: Junior
Alex Sheridan (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) is currently tied for second in the conference with five helpers this season … All five of his assists came in the first five games of the year.
Scoring Woes: The Pioneers hope to revive their offense on Tuesday night against the Knights … UC has scored just two goals in their last five contests … Clarkson has allowed 16 goals in nine games this year.
Home Sweet Home: UC is currently 3-1 at home and 1-5 on the road this season.
OT Losses: The Pioneers have lost three games in overtime this season (Cazenovia, Williams, Fisher).
