Volleyball Wraps Up Weekend with Win Over Cobleskill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Oneonta N.Y. (10/13/12) – The Utica College women's volleyball team dropped three out of four games on the road this past weekend  at the two day Hartwick Invitational in Oneonta.

Game 1- Lebanon Valley 3, Utica 1 (Box Score)

The Pioneers took the court against the Lebanon Valley College Dutchman in their first game on Saturday and took the third set out of four 25-13. The remaining sets were dropped 25-22, 25-12 and 25-14. Sophomore Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) led the way for Utica with nine kills, 11 digs and only three errors.  Sophomore Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) weighed in with four kills, six digs and one error and first year freshman Shauna Murray (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) chipped in with three kills. Sophomore Kelle Furno tallied eight assists and ten digs while sophomore Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) racked up 11 digs for the Pioneers.

Game 2- Keuka 3, Utica 1 (Box Score)

The second game of the evening saw the Pioneers edge their first match with Keuka College 26-24, before dropping the next three matches 25-15, 25-14 and 25-10. Freshman Shauna Murray (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) led her team in kills with seven and she added two blocks, while Utica junior's Liz Sacco (Franklin, Mass. /Franklin) and Haley Strife each scored three kills for their team. Strife also had two blocks. Sophomore's Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) and Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) came up big with digs; Nicotera contributed ten while Enny made nine. 

Game 3- Utica 3, Cobleskill 1 (Box Score)

The second day of the invite started out well for the Pioneer's taking down 11-14 SUNY Cobleskill in three out of four sets for the win (25-20, 17-25, 25-15, 25-20). Sophomore Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) had ten kills, as did Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip), who also scored an ace. Freshman Shauna Murray (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) came up big with nine kills and six blocks, sophomore Kelle Furno had six kills and three aces, and Haley Strife added to Utica's success with six kills, one ace and six blocks. Sophomore Briona  Enny  led the team in digs with 13 and Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) came in just behind her with 11 digs.

Game 4- Plattsburgh 3, Utica 0 (Box Score)

The Pioneers fell in straight sets in their last game with the Plattsburgh Cardinals (25-11, 25-22, 25-21). Sophomore Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway) led her team in kills, with five, sophomore Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) had four kills and one bock. Sophomore Kelle Furno tallied eight assists and six aces on the evening, while Brionna Enny led her team in digs with twenty four.
Teamwork- During the two day invitational the Pioneer's combined for a total of 112 kills, 56 assists, and 137 digs. The Pioneers also blocked 24 shots.

What's next: The Pioneers travel to Morrisville State College to face off against the 5-13 Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
