Persio & Zaloom Pick Up Thrilling Win in Women's Doubles as UC Takes on Hartwick

Vernon, NY (10-2-12) – The Utica College women's tennis team played Empire 8 foe Hartwick College tough Tuesday despite losing 8-1 at the Turning Stone Casino.  Senior Jennifer Persio (Cheshire, CT/Tilton ) and freshman Rose Zaloom (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) led the Pioneers with a big win in doubles competition.

Persio battled in singles play as well however lost in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 10-7) to Hartwick's Rebecca Clark.

Zaloom, from Utica, NY, also made a run in singles competition in the No. 1 spot but fell 6-3 and 6-4 to Hawk Nicole Schepisi.

UC drops to 1-7 overall and remains winless in the conference while the Hawks even their overall mark at 5-5 while improving to 4-2 in the E8. 

The Pioneers return to the courts Saturday when the squad travels to Hoboken, NJ for their final conference contest of the season against Stevens Institute of Technology.  The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.  The Ducks are currently 5-3 on the season while 3-2 in Empire 8 play and have lost their last two matches.
