BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: In honor of breast cancer awareness month the Pioneers have joined forces with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer … The Pioneers will dawn pink gear throughout their contest against the Saxons … A portion of the Friends of Football 50/50 raffle will be donated to the Perfect Fit Boutique of the Regional Cancer Center of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare here in Utica …The boutique specializes in products for post-mastectomy women who are breast cancer survivors, and provides clothing to suite the unique needs of these patients.
ALL TIME SERIES: Utica and Alfred have met every year since the Pioneers began varsity football back in 2001 … UC is still in the hunt for its elusive first win against the Saxons, having lost 11 straight to Alfred … Alfred's smallest margin of victory was in 2002 when it defeated Utica 10-0.
LAST WEEK: The Utica College football team put together its second straight dominant Empire 8 Conference performance, this time topping host Hartwick College 43-7 at Wright Stadium on Saturday... The Pioneers once again controlled play on both sides of the ball and they have now outscored their opponents 83-7 over the course of their last two conference victories ... UC advanced its record to 5-2 overall for the second straight year and the Pioneers moved into a second place tie with a 3-1 overall record in the E8... Jesse Baldassare (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) led the way with a career-best 153 yards, marking his third 100 yard performance of the year… The big running game led to the Pioneers' second straight 500 yard performance as a team, while the defense shut the door on the hosts, holding the Hawks to just 24 yards rushing and 224 total yards... UC finished with 582 yards of total offense, marking the second highest single-game total in the program's 12 year history …The Pioneers are beginning to finish games strong, outscoring the host Hawks 30-0 in the final 31:26 of play.
LAST TIME THESE TWO MET: The Utica College football team closed out regular season play last year with a 41-13 loss against Empire 8 Conference foe Alfred University at Merrill Field …
Andrew Benkwitt (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) broke his own record for completions in a single-season after totaling 27 completions for 228 yards... The Pioneers closed out the regular season with a 5-5 overall record, marking a tie for the second most wins in the program's 11 year history … UC's second half woes continued for the second straight week as it could not muster a touchdown in the final 30 minutes... Alfred netted 281 yards rushing on the ground, compared to the Pioneers' 26, as the Saxons moved to 7-3 on the year... Austin Dwyer carried the ball 20 times for 109 yards, while Tyler DeRosa added 105 yards on 13 carries for Alfred.
FOUR IN A ROW?: The last time Utica won four straight games was back in 2010 when the Pioneers opened the season with four straight victories against non-conference opponents … The Pioneers have now won three consecutive games for the first time this season to increase their record to 5-2 … UC opened the season 5-2 last year, but finished the season with three straight losses for a 5-5 overall record.
RECORD SETTING YEAR: A win on Saturday would help the Pioneers' tie the school-record for wins in a single season which was set back in 2005 when they finished 6-4 … That same year they also finished 3-3 in Empire 8 Conference play, marking the highest win total in conference … A win on Saturday would help UC break the school-record for conference wins in a single season … A win would also help guarantee Utica its second winning season in the program's 12 year history.

WOODBURN IMPRESSES ONCE AGAIN: Freshman kicker Thomas Woodburn was named the Empire 8 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday afternoon … Woodburn broke his own school-record for points by a kicker in a single-game, which he originally set the week before, as he totaled 12 points (three field goals, three extra points) in the Pioneers' convincing 43-7 win over Hartwick on Saturday … He also tied the school-record for field goals made in a single-game with three … Woodburn knocked down field goals of 22, 22 and 30 yards.
