Box Score Oswego, NY (11/3/12)- The Utica College women's ice hockey team dropped a close one Saturday night as it fell to ECAC West opponent, Oswego State, 5-3.
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) led the way for UC with two goals, while
Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) and
Mary Fusco (Enfield, CT/Salve Regina University) each recorded two points for the Pioneers.
Oswego jumped out to an early lead as Melissa Seamont scored just over a minute into the game. The Lakers were able to add two more tallies I the first period to take a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission.
The score remained the same until the third period when Myers converted a penalty shot attempt with a highlight real goal to bring the Pioneers within two.
Oswego was able to regain the three-goal lead with four minutes remaining as Mady Paul scored an unassisted tally. Myers however stormed right back, just 19 second later as she netted her second of the contest. With DelleChiaie and Fusco picking up the assists.
Dellechiaie netted a goal of her own with two and a half minutes remaining to cut the Laker lead to one. Fusco and
Courtney May (Oxford, MI/Belle Tire) added helpers on the goal. However, UC's comeback hopes were spoiled as Oswego was able to add an empty net goal with under a minute remaining to seal the victory.
Oswego's Bridget Smith had 29 saves, while Utica goaltender,
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) turned away 13 shots in the loss.
The Pioneers return to action next weekend as they have a home-and-home series with ECAC West rival, Elmira College. UC travels to Elmira for a 7 p.m. game Friday night, before returning to Utica for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday.
