Utica, NY (12/9/12)- The Utica College women's ice hockey team dropped its second straight game, Sunday afternoon as it fell to visiting Amherst College, 1-0.
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) made 17 saves in the loss.
Amherst scored the only goal of the contest just over five minutes in as Geneva Lloyd netted her sixth goal of the season, assisted by Tori Salmon. Salmon took a few steps into the Utica zone before dumping a puck towards the net. Lloyd was able to reach out and deflect the puck on net passed Hamel.
Despite both teams trading scoring chances, neither one was able to score again as they played nearly 55 more minutes of even hockey.
Amherst was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Utica was 0-for-6 with the man-advantage. Kerri Stuart had 20 saves in net for the Lord Jeffs to pick up her first shutout of the year.
Utica (4-5, 3-4 ECAC Women's West) returns to action after the winter break on Jan. 2 as it hosts Middlebury College. Game time is 3 p.m. Amherst (5-4, 3-1 NESCAC) will take on Colby College on Jan. 4 as it returns to conference play.
