Troy, NY--- 12 different players registered at least one point as the Utica College women's lacrosse team earned its most lopsided victory since 2010 after defeating host Sage College 17-0 in non-conference play Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers (1-1) were led by senior
Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta)'s four goals (tied a career-high), as well as career-best performances from sophomore two-sport athlete
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) and freshman
Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville). Maines and Kane each registered three goals.
The Pioneers outshot the home team 50-8 and they also won 15-of-19 draw controls. Sage (0-2) was led by junior goalie
Courtney Reeds' career-high 21 saves. UC goalie
Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) stopped four shots before being replaced by sophomore
Stephanie Belanger (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) at the half.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half of play to essentially put the game out of reach. The half featured an outburst of three goals in just over a minute midway through the half. Banker started the three goal barrage at 18:33 before freshman Morgan Dupont scored the first goal of her young career 50 seconds later. Banker ended the spurt by netting her third of the afternoon at the 17:22 marker to give UC a 5-0 lead.
Dupont went on to register three assists, while freshman
Kelcie Marshall (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) tallied her first collegiate goal and added two assists.
Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining),
Kristen Beckman (Lake Placid, NY/Northwood),
Maria Santucci (Holliston, MA/Marian),
Lindsey Gelles (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and
Janet Campo (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) all went on to net one goal for the Pioneers. Freshmen
Samantha Gebler (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and
Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) each added an assist for Utica.
Meghan Olesen (Franklin, MA/Franklin) chipped in with a game-high six draw controls and she also scooped up two ground balls. Banker added a game-high five ground balls, while Gebler caused three turnovers.
The Pioneers were a perfect 10-for-10 on clear opportunities and they were also 3-for-8 on free position attempts.
UC returns to the field after Spring break on March 21 when it travels to crosstown rival SUNYIT for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
