Utica, NY (3/16/12)- The Utica College softball team won the final two games of its spring training trip to Kissimmee, FL, on Friday.

In the first game, the Pioneers took on a tough squad from Otterbein University.  UC got on the board in the second inning when freshman Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) singled to left field to score Bridgette Plummer (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville), who was on third.

Otterbein tied the score in the bottom of the inning as freshman Kayla Woodard laid down a sacrifice bunt to score teammate Brooke Albright.

The Pioneers continued with a strong third inning as catcher Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) hit a lead off single.  Sophomore Kristie Jones (Brewerton, NY/Paul V Moore) followed that up with a double to left center that scored Ingalls.

UC picked up another run in the fourth as Ingalls hit an RBI single up the middle to score pitcher Haley Butler (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford)

The Pioneers capped off the scoring in the fifth as senior Jess Anson (Utica, NY/Proctor) singled to right to score Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) and Dominique Carcone (Frankfort, NY/New Hartford).  Next, Butler singled up the middle to score Anson.

The Pioneers shut down the Cardinals as Butler picked up her first win of the season; while freshman Cassidy Thompson (Bend, OR/West Valley) recorded her fifth save.

In the second game, UC routed the Daniel Webster Eagles 8-0.  The Pioneers led off with two hits and one run in the first.  Utica exploded for five runs in the third as they picked up hits from Fitzgerald, Plummer, Carcone, Meagan Fleming, Traglia, and Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker)

The Pioneers capped off the scoring with one run in both the fourth and fifth innings.  Freshman Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) picked up her second win, while allowing just three hits and striking out three, in five innings of work.

UC returns to action Wednesday, as in hosts cross-town rival SUNYIT for a double-header beginning at 3:30pm at the Utica College softball field.
