Utica, N.Y. -- The Utica College women's lacrosse team looks to continue where it left off before break as it travels across town to first-year program SUNYIT Wednesday at 4 p.m.
UC traveled to Troy, NY two weekends ago and squared off against Sage College. 12 different Pioneers tallied at least one point, and three players had career-best afternoons as the Pioneers came away with a convincing 17-0 victory.
Balanced Scoring Attack: The Pioneers have had 12 women score at least one goal in two games this season … Senior
Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) leads the team with six goals … Sophomore classmates
Janet Campo (Centerport, NY/Harborfields),
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional), and freshman
Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) each have three goals for UC this season.
Defensive Effort: UC posted its most lopsided victory since 2010 when it defeated Sage College 17-0 two weekends ago … The 17-0 victory marked the first shutout in the program's 12 year history … The Pioneers are only giving up 4.5 goals per game … Sophomore
Keala King (St. Albans, VT/Bellows Free Academy) leads the team with four caused turnovers.
Between the pipes: Senior goalie
Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) stopped the only four shots she saw on Saturday and sophomore
Stephanie Belanger (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) came in at half time to preserve the shut out for the Pioneers … Barbay leads the team with nine ground balls and she has a save percentage of .590.
Scouting SUNY: The first year Wildcats are 0-3 on the season and have been out scored 48-10 by their opponents … Wednesday will mark the first time in program-history that Utica will face SUNYIT.
Next time out: The Pioneers will play host to Clarkson University on Saturday, March 24th. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
