UTICA, NY (3-23-12)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team looks to continue its recent success as it hosts Clarkson University, Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Last Time Out: UC is coming off a 16-0 win at SUNY IT… Eight different players netted at least one goal to pace the Pioneers.
Where We Sit: Utica is currently 2-1 overall… Both wins have been shutouts, and UC has outscored its opponents 39-9.
Balanced Attack: 12 different Pioneers have registered at least one goal on the season… Senior
Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) leads the team with ten goals and 13 points… Freshman
Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) has six goals, while
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional),
Janet Campo (Centerport, NY/Harborfields), and
Samantha Gebler (Vestal, NY/Vestal) have found the back of the net four times each.
Defensive Effort: UC is coming off back-to-back shutouts against Sage (17-0) and SUNY IT (16-0)… Those are the first shutouts in the program's 12-year history… Banker,
Lauren Gilmore (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield), and
Keala King (St. Albans, VT/Bellows Free Academy) lead the team with four caused turnovers apiece.
Between the Pipes: Senior goalie
Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) and junior
Stephanie Belanger (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) have split the last two games for UC… Barbay leads the team with nine ground balls and has a .591 save percentage.
Scouting Clarkson: The Knights are 1-2 overall and are coming off a 14-12 loss at Eastern Connecticut State… The Pioneers are 6-2 against Clarkson dating back to 2004… Last year UC defeated the Knights 9-7
Maria Santucci (Holliston, MA/Marian) and
Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) each scored one goal in the contest.
