Utica, N.Y. – After trailing by two goals early in the second half, the Utica College women's lacrosse team rattled off four of the game's next five goals to take a 8-7 lead with less than eight minutes to go in the game, but Clarkson's Saryn Campbell tied the game with 26 seconds to go in regulation and the Golden Knights netted two goals in overtime to earn a 10-8 victory in non-conference play Saturday.

Alyssa Cristaldi netted an early overtime goal for Clarkson to give the Golden Knights a 9-8 lead and Katie VanDeValk sealed the OT victory with her fourth goal of the contest with 1:20 left in the second overtime period. Both of the overtime goals were off of free position attempts as Clarkson avenged last year's 9-7 loss at the hands of the Pioneers.

Senior Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) netted a team-high four goals and added one assist for the Pioneers (2-2),
Shelby Barbay
while Van DeValk added five points of her own (four goals, one assist) for visiting Clarkson (2-2). Senior goalie Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) stopped a season-high 14 shots and added nine ground balls in between the pipes for the Pioneers.

With the Pioneers leading 2-0 early in the contest, the visitors rattled off four straight goals, including three from VanDeValk, to put Clarkson up 4-2 midway through the first half.  The Pioneers were able to outscore the Golden Knights 2-1 in the final 12:18 of the first half to cut the Clarkson lead to one goal, 5-4, at the intermission.

Campbell, who finished the day with two goals and three assists, opened the second half scoring to put the visitors up by two, 6-4, before the Pioneers started their second half charge. Twin sisters Patricia and Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), along with Banker, led the Pioneer surge. Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) netted her eighth goal of the young season less than five minutes into the second half before Banker netted her team-leading 13th of the year to knot the score at 6-6.

Cassie Grace scored her second goal of the afternoon to give the Golden Knights the lead right back, 7-6, with 13:42 left in regulation. Just 42 seconds later the Pioneers tied the game back up when Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) scored her second of the year, before Banker gave UC the lead, 8-7, with 7:45 left in the second half.

It appeared as if the Pioneers might take home the victory until Campbell netted the game-tying goal with 26 seconds left on the clock and the Golden Knights controlled the pace of play in OT to earn the victory.

Banker chipped in with seven ground balls, five caused trunovers and three draw controls, while Jennifer Rogaski (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) added three ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Senior captain Maria Santucci (Holliston, MA/Marian) netted one goal for Utica and Samantha Gebler (Vestal, NY/Vestal) added an assist of her own.

UC returns to action for game two of a three game home stand on Wednesday when it hosts Oswego State for their final non-conference game before the start of Empire 8 play.  Wednesday's game against the Lakers is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
