Utica, NY (4-18-12) – The Utica College softball team dropped two non-conference games to the University of Rochester Wednesday afternoon at Greenman Field. Sophomore
Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) led UC with three hits, two RBI and one run scored.
Game One
The visitors struck first as they converted one run on three hits to take an early 1-0 lead in the first.
UC answered in the third with one run on two hits tying the score, 1-1, as sophomore
Bridgette Plummer (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) drove in freshman
Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) on a two out single.
After a scoreless fourth, U of R regained a one run lead on a leadoff homerun by Samantha Melvin. The Pioneers retaliated in the bottom half with two runs on three hits to take their first lead of the day. Ingalls ripped a two out single through the right side scoring Fitzgerald and freshman
Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) to take a 3-2 edge. However, the Yellow Jackets would muster one run in the sixth and seventh while shutting down UC to take game one, 4-3.
Ingalls went 2-for-4 with two RBI while freshman
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) added two hits for UC.
Senior
Heather Kingsbury (Williamson, NY/Williamson) threw seven complete innings allowing three earned runs on five hits as she dropped to 10-3 on the season.
Game Two
The game went scoreless over the first two innings before the Yellow Jackets edged a 1-0 lead in the top of third on one hit and the help of a Utica error. UC quickly answered in the bottom half with a six run rally on six hits to cushion a 6-1 advantage. Senior

Olivia Cunningham (Bethlehem, NH/Profile) tallied two run hits while senior
Haley Butler (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) added an RBI single.
Rochester came back with three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth at the hands of five UC errors to knot the game up 6-6.
U of R took a 7-6 lead in the sixth off a two run homerun by Meghan Hennessy as it went on to fend off Utica, 7-6, for the afternoon sweep.
Anson posted two hits, two RBI and one run scored while junior Megan Matan added two hits and one run in game two.
UC falls to 19-14 overall while the Yellow Jackets move their overall record to 21-10 on the season. The Pioneers return to action Sunday as they host Empire 8 rival Alfred University. Game one of the double header is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Utica, NY at Greenman Field.
