Utica, NY (4-2-12) – The Utica College women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, April 3rd as it travels to Buffalo, NY to take on Medaille College in a non-conference match up.
Face-Off: The game is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. at John B. Wiley Satdium.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers are looking to extend on their two game win streak against the Mavericks, as they opened up conference play with a 10-6 win on Saturday against the visiting Hawks from Hartwick College … UC is winners of four of their last five games and the Pioneers are looking strong.
Sitting Atop the Empire 8: UC is currently in first place of the Empire 8 after the first week of conference play … The Pioneers are 4-2 overall and have a conference record of 1-0 … Joining UC in first place is St. John Fisher, Ithaca, and Nazareth.
Seeing Double: Freshman twin sisters
Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and
Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) have been on a tear early in the season for the Pioneers … Patricia is second on the team in points with 11, she also has 14 ground balls and 10 draw controls … Megan is currently sixth on the team in points with six goals and two assists … She is third on the team in ground balls with 17 and she is second in caused turnovers with 11 on the year.
Great Goaltending: Senior goalie
Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) was recently named the Empire 8 Conference Goalie of the Week for the second straight week … Last week the Waterloo, NY native had five saves as Utica defeated Oswego 12-10 on Wednesday … She followed that up with a nine-save performance in the win over Hartwick … She has stopped 42 shots and has compiled a .545 save percentage this year … She ranks first on the College's all-time list in career saves (473) and career wins (23), and is second in saves per game (10.28).
Awesome Attack: Katlyn Banker (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) has spearheaded a balanced UC attack so far this season … The senior forward leads the team in goals and assists (20.8) … She also leads the Pioneers with 4.6 points per game … Freshman classmates
Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and
Samantha Gebler (Vestal, NY/Vestal) are currently tied for second on the team in points with 11 thus far … Over the first six games for UC, twelve different players have scored.
Scouting Medaille: The Mavericks are currently 3-2 on the season, and are coming off of a convincing 20-5 rout over SUNYIT Saturday … This is only the second meeting between the two teams, as UC beat Medaille 22-5 in the ECAC Upstate Championships back in May of 2008.
Next Time Out: The Pioneers will return to action Friday, April 6th as they play host to conference rival St. John Fisher. Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
