Pioneers Downed by Naz at the UC Courts

Utica, NY (4-5-12) – The Utica College men's tennis lost Thursday afternoon to Empire 8 foe Nazareth College at the UC Tennis Courts.  Junior local Mike Zaloom (Utica, NY/TR Proctor High School ), a T.R. Proctor graduate, fought hard in the three-spot against Naz's Nick Lord however lost 7-5 and 6-1.

The Pioneers fall to 0-2 overall and in Empire 8 play while the Golden Flyers move to 3-8 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.

Freshman Jon Gorman (South Kingstown, RI/South Kingstown), junior Sam Cotrupe (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro High School ) and sophomore Daniel Fadden (Lakeland, NY/Bishop Ludden) each recorded two points in the first set of singles play.

Freshmen Cody Plasterer (Sturbridge, MA/Winthrop High School ) and Ryan Valle (Winthrop, ME/Winthrop High School) teamed up to manufacture two points in doubles competition however were defeated, 8-2, as the Golden Flyers went on to shut out Utica, 9-0.

UC returns to the courts Saturday as welcomes St. John Fisher for an Empire 8 battle at the UC Tennis Courts (1 p.m.).  The Cardinals of Fisher are currently 2-8 overall while posting a 1-1 mark in E8 action.
