UC Softball Opens up Conference Play this Weekend on the Road

The Pioneers look to get back on track as they open up conference play
Utica, NY (4/5/12) – The Utica College women's softball team looks to get back to its winning ways this weekend as it opens up conference play on the road at Ithaca for two games Friday, before traveling to Stevens Institute of Technology for two games Saturday.

Game Time: Friday's double header is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Kostrinksy Field, while Saturday's contests kick off at 1 p.m. at Weehawken Field. 

Win Streak Snapped: Utica snapped an 11 game winning streak Wednesday when they dropped two games to Union College… Junior Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) went 6-for-7 with three runs, two RBIs, including one home run, to lead the way for the Pioneer offense. 

Ingalls on a Streak: In the last four games for the Pioneers, junior Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) is 10-14 at the plate with six runs scored, four RBI, four doubles, and two homeruns… On the season Ingalls ranks first on the team in runs scored (16), triples (1), home runs (2), second in total bases (31) and doubles (4), third on the team in hits (19), and fourth in slugging percentage (.484)…

Rookies Playing Like Vets: Freshman classmates Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk), and Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), rank second and third on the team in hitting… Traglia has a batting average of .415 with four runs scored, three doubles, five RBI, six walks, and three stolen bases… Fitzgerald is batting .364 on the year with 10 runs scored, four doubles, two homeruns, eleven RBI, and four walks…

Ithaca: The Bombers come into the game with a 7-10 overall record, and a four game losing streak… Ithaca is led by junior Mallory O'Donnell, who ranks first on the team in batting average (.404), hits (23), doubles (6), triples (2), home runs (3), and RBI (16)…  Utica has never beat Ithaca as last year they lost both games of a double header 10-0, then 10-4…

Stevens: Stevens comes into the weekend with an overall record of 7-13 after dropping two games to William Paterson University Wednesday… Sophomore Danielle DeFeo leads the team with a .468 batting average, 14 runs scored, four RBI, and three walks… Last season the Pioneers squeaked out two close victories winning 7-6 in the first game, and 11-9 in the second…  

Next Time Out: Utica returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Hamilton College for a double header starting at 3:30 p.m.
