Pioneers Place Fifth as Host of Spring Invite

Oneida, NY (4-7-12) – The Utica college men's golf team placed fifth as they posted a 345 Saturday while hosting the 2012 Spring UC invitational at Kanon Valley Country Club (Oneida, NY).  Locals junior John Gaspa (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) of Whitesboro, NY and freshman Christian Leogrande (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) of New Hartford, NY led the Pioneers as they tied for 14th overall carding 85's.

Scranton took home the trophies, shooting a team score of 319, as medalist Grant Gulick struck an impressive 76, in the brutal windy conditions.  St. Lawrence's A-Team shot a 327 for second place while Hobart College took

third carding a team score of 337.  St. Lawrence's B-Team placed fourth with a 342, just three shots ahead of UC.

Junior Patrick Dundon (Utica, NY/Whitesboro), also from nearby Whitesboro, NY, tied for 20th overall as he finished with an 86, coming in with a 46 on the front and a 40 on the back nine.

Junior Jamie Murphy (Canadaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), also a wide receiver on the football team, carded an 89 in his first tournament back with the Pioneers. Murphy shot 45 on the front and finished with a 45 on the final nine holes, placing 26th overall.

Sophomore's Gary Carriero (White Plains, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) and Ethan Kreisel (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) tied for 36th as they both turned in a 95.

New additions sophomore's Benton Ketron (Ilion, NY/Ilion) and Ben Tuchman (Suffern, NY /Suffern) along with freshman Adam Vella (Utica, NY /Notre Dame) took the course for the first time as Pioneers, competing on Utica's B-Team.

UC Returns to the course Saturday April, 21st for the Empire 8 Championships in Hersey, PA.  The final two rounds of the conference tournament will be held at Hershey Country Club and will be hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology.
