Volleyball Looks to Get Back on Track at Cobleskill

Sophomore Chelsea Lauria leads the team with 121 assists through three games
Utica, NY (9/11/2012)- The Utica College volleyball team returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Cobleskill, NY for a non-conference match up against SUNY Cobleskill.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers went 1-1 at the Hilbert Invitational last weekend… Utica defeated Alfred University 3-1 in the first game, before falling to host, Hilbert College 3-2 in the second game… Sophomore Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) led the team with 24 kills in the two games, while classmates Kellee Furno (Baltimore, MD/Maryvalle) and Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia) combined for 64 assists.

Super Sophomores: The Pioneers are led by a strong sophomore class that has contributed most the offense… Manzer (47) and Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) (36) rank first and second on the team, respectively, in kills… Lauria has totaled 121 assists in three games, and classmate Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) has a team-high 28 digs.

Scouting Cobleskill: The Fighting Tigers are 2-2 overall… They have wins over Elms College (3-0) and Albertus Magnus College (3-2) and have lost twice to Sage (3-0,3-0)… This will be the first time the two teams have met. 

Looking Ahead: Following this, the Pioneers head to Schenectady, NY for the Union Invitational featuring Union, Sage, Oneonta, and SUNY Cortland.
