UC Volleyball looks to rebound on Saturday against Oneonta (10 a.m.) and #9 Cortland (2 p.m.)

Schenectady, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2012) – The Utica College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of games on Friday night at the Union College Invitational. The host Dutchwomen took the Pioneers down in three sets (25-10, 25-20, 25-16), but Utica would not go down so easily in its second game of the evening against Sage College. After Utica won the first two sets convincingly, 25-14 and 25-16, Sage rallied to win two straight games (25-22, 25-7) and the Gators were able to win the decisive fifth set, 15-12, to steal the victory.
The Pioneers (4-3) return to the hardwood on Saturday when they take on Oneonta State at 10 a.m. They will close out their weekend at Union by taking on nationally-ranked No. 9 SUNY Cortland at 2 p.m.
In game one against Union, sophomore
Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) led the Pioneers with seven kills, eight digs and two aces, while sophomore
Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway) chipped in with four kills and two solo blocks. Sophomore setter
Kellee Furno (Baltimore, MD/Maryvalle) added 16 assists for UC.
Bayer added 14 kills in the five set thriller against Sage. She also picked up 23 digs, four aces and one solo block. Sophomore
Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia) added 21 assists and classmate
Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) posted 25 digs.
