Volleyball Closes Out Weekend with Loss to #9 Cortland

Utica returns to action at Oswego State on Wednesday night
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Utica, NY (9/17/12) The Utica College volleyball team dropped two games at the Union Invitational, Saturday.

In match one, sophomore Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) got UC on the board with six kills and aided her team with five digs, combined with three kills and three digs from sophomore Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip), three kills and one dig from junior Liz Sacco (Franklin, Mass. /Franklin) and one kill each from Sophomore Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway) and Freshman Shauna Murray (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson). Sophomore Alyssa Nicotera (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) also played strong for the Pioneers achieving two kills and seven digs, however, the Pioneers fell to Oneonta (25-17, 25-15, 25-20).

UC dropped the second match to nationally ranked no. nine, SUNY Cortland (25-14, 25-11, 25-12). Sophomore Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) tallied seven kills and eight digs followed by Junior Liz Sacco (Franklin, Mass. /Franklin) with three kills and four digs. Freshman Shauna Murray (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) recorded one kill and one dig for her team while Sophomore Brianna Derby (Tribes Hill, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored one kill, she came up huge with eight digs. Sophomore Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) also chipped in with two kills and four digs.

In all, the Pioneers totaled 30 kills and 67 digs over the course of the two meetings.

Utica returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Oswego, NY for a non-conference tilt against the Lakers.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
