UC Volleyball Falls Short Against Morrisville

Utica, NY (9-30-12) – The Utica College volleyball team lost 3-1 Sunday afternoon to Morrisville State at the Clark Athletic Center.  Freshman Shauna Murray (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) led UC as she tallied a team-high 10 kills on the day.

Utica battled in the first sets losing 28-26 and 25-22 before mustering up a third set win, 25-21.  However, the Mustangs proved tough as they came out in the fourth set with a 25-14 victory and their third win of the season.

Sophomore Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) recorded nine kills from the attack while junior Hayley Strife (Lowville, NY/Lowville) and sophomore Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway) combined for 11 kills for the Pioneers.

Junior Tarah Babcock (Candor,NY/Candor) posted a team-high 11 digs while sophomore Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) followed up with 10 of her own.  Both also added one ace apiece.

Sophomores Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia) and Kelle Furno led the squad in assists as Lauira tallied up 15 while Furno added eight.

Junior Liz Sacco (Franklin, Mass. /Franklin) aided with two service aces, three solo stuffs and three assisted blocks for UC.

The Pioneers fall to 5-11 overall including a 1-4 record in the Empire 8 Conference and return to action Wednesday Oct. 3 when they host local rival Hamilton College.  The match will be held at the Clark Athletic Center and is set to start at 7 p.m.  Morrisville improves to 3-8 on the season and currently holds a 1-3 mark in the NEAC.  The Mustangs are back in action Tuesday when they face Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY.
