Vanessa Maines scored her second goal of the season.
Box Score Utica 1, Potsdam 1- Final
Utica, NY (1/12/13)- The Utica College women's hockey team picked up one point in the ECAC West standings Saturday as it tied SUNY Potsdam, 1-1 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) scored UC's only goal and
Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced.
Potsdam opened the scoring just over five minutes into the contest as Amanda Lucky netted her fourth goal of the year. After a broken play in front of the Utica net, Lucky gathered the puck, spun around and slid it inside the near post. Izzy Fayerman and Sally Mooney assisted on the tally.
Utica answered back at 13:44 when junior
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) put in her second of the season. Sophomore defender
Courtney May (Oxford, MI/Belle Tire) fired a low shot from the blue line that Maines was able to redirect off the crossbar and in. Freshman
Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton), from nearby Clinton, NY also added an assist for her first collegiate point.
Both goalies shut the door after that as they played over 50 minutes of scoreless action. Utica continued its power play woes as it was held 0-7 with the man advantage. Potsdam went 0-for-3 with the extra attacker.
Potsdam goalie Jen Conophy made 41 saves, to help the Bears move to 6-8-2 on the year and 2-5-1 in the conference. Utica moves to 6-5-1 (3-3-1 ECAC West) on the season.
Both teams meet again Sunday in Potsdam at Clarkson University's Cheel Arena.
