Box Score Utica 2, Potsdam 0- Final

Potsdam, NY (1/13/13)- The Utica College women's ice hockey team downed host SUNY Potsdam, 2-0 in ECAC West Conference action Sunday afternoon.  Junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) and sophomore Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean) scored for the Pioneers.

After a scoreless first period, UC got on the board as Myers netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season.  Sophomores Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks) and Courtney May (Oxford, MI/Belle Tire) assisted on the tally.

Utica added an insurance goal at 5:38 of the first period off the stick of Dowdall.  Schwartz and Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) assisted on
Dowdall's second goal of the year.

That was all the Pioneers needed as junior Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) shut the door stopping all 29 shots she faced for her second shutout in nine games played. Meanwhile, Potsdam's Dawna Salvarinas made 35 saves in the loss.

The Bears drop to 6-9-2 (2-6-1 ECAC West), while Utica improves to 6-6-1 and 4-3-1 in the conference.  UC returns to action next weekend as it travels to Aston, PA for a big conference match up against Neumann University.
