UC Records 2nd Straight Shut Out In Win Over Morrisville

UC's Anthony Fotino assisted on the Pioneers' second goal of the night
Box Score Utica, NY (10/1/2013) – The Utica College men's soccer team converted on its third shutout in its last four games as the Pioneers topped visiting Morrisville State, 2-0, in a non-conference affair on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Tuesday night.   The Pioneers moved their record to 5-5 overall and they have now won five of their last seven matches.

Utica's Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) and Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) each scored their team-best fourth goal of the season in the first and second halves, respectively. Morrisville, which entered the game having not lost in five straight contests, moved its record to 6-3-2 overall on the year.

UC got on the board in the 12th minute of the contest when Ruffing received a lead pass from senior Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) and finished the scoring chance into the top left corner from about 15 yards out.

McAllister added an insurance goal for the Pioneers in the 71st minute when he took an Anthony Fotino (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) pass, made a move to the right of his defender, and ripped a low shot past Morrisville goalie Rob Larkin into the lower right corner of the goal.

UC's Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) recorded his 17th career shutout to extend his program-record for shut outs in a career. Rob Larkin, from nearby Clinton, NY, stopped eight shots in the loss.

Utica earned a 17-9 advantage in the shot category and the Pioneers were awarded eight corner kicks compared to the Mustangs' two.

The Pioneers return to the pitch on the road Saturday when they travel to Houghton College to take on the Highlanders at 4 p.m.
