Ithaca, NY (10/11/13)- The Utica College volleyball team dropped both games on the opening day of the Ithaca Classic Friday night.  UC lost to the host, Ithaca Bombers, 3-1 before falling to Messiah College 3-0 in the night cap.

Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia), Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro), and Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) each had nine kills in the opening contest.  Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had a team-high 20 assists, and Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) also led the squad with 20 digs.  Blaszak had a team-best two aces, while Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) led the way with two blocks.  Carly Lonczak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) chipped in with 11 assists, while Cassi Brancato (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) had eight digs.

In the second match, the Pioneers fell in straight sets to an impressive squad from Messiah College.  Brancato had four killes, followed by Homer-Gunther, Blaszak, and Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway), who each had three kills.  Lonczak had a team-high six assists, while Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had three assists and three digs. Hayley Strife (Lowville, NY/Lowville) added two kills, while Leah Kazalski (Greene, NY/Greene) had two digs on the evening. 

The Pioneers get right back at it Saturday as they face Medaille and Wells College.  Games times are scheduled for 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
