Mackey Joins 100 Point Club as UC Tops Hartwick 5-0 in E8 Play

Hannah Mackey became the 3rd player in school-history to score over 100 points in a career
Box Score ONEONTA, NY (10/12/2013) – The Utica College field hockey team improved to 4-1 in Empire 8 Conference play as the Pioneers topped host Hartwick College 5-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers, 10-3 overall, have now secured 10 or more victories in a single season for the seventh time in program-history.  Junior Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) netted two goals and became the third player in program-history (second this season) to score over 100 points in a career. Mackey now has 102 career points, joining classmate Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and 2005 graduate Shannon Rohacek in the 100 point club.

Sophomore goalie Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) secured her fifth shutout of the season (third in conference play) and the Pioneers have now outscored their conference opponents 22-5 through five conference contests.

The Pioneers came out of the gates hot and took a 2-0 advantage in the first 12:42 of the contest behind goals from junior Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Mackey.  Stojkovski currently ranks third on the team with six goals and four assists (16 points).  Mackey is tied with Steele-Norton for the team-lead in goals with 12.  The Hawks were able to hold UC scoreless for the remainder of the first half and the score was set at 2-0 at the first intermission.

The second half was all UC as the Pioneers received goals from Steele-Norton, freshman Emily Gascon (Chenango Forks, NY/Greene) and Mackey (second of the afternoon) to complete the 5-0 shutout.

Casey was called upon to stop one shot in the victory for UC, while Shannon Carter and Jilian Sabatino combined to make four saves in the cage for Hartwick.  The Hawks are now 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the E8. UC outshot Hartwick 12-3 on the afternoon.

Utica will take a week off before traveling to Elmira College next Saturday to take on the Soaring Eagles in the fourth game of a five game road trip for the Pioneers.  The Empire 8 contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Elmira, N.Y.
